Calligraphy is one of the traditional Japanese cultures. It's a simple art form to write letters with black ink on white paper. However, the form of the art work can vary greatly according to the person who creates it, which is another charm of calligraphy.

Nowadays foreign people are often fascinated with calligraphy feeling an attraction to the design properties of kanji (Chinese characters). You may believe that painting kanji characters is very difficult, but it's not the case when you approach it as if you were drawing a pictograph or picture since kanji was originally a set of hieroglyphs. Even beginners can create a beautiful work of art under the careful guidance of our instructors.

It has been scientifically proven that ink aroma soothes the mind. Why don't you make your own calligraphy work while spending a relaxing and peaceful time in a traditional Kyoto townhouse? It is sure to become an unforgettable memory of your visit to our ancient island country.

You can choose your final masterpiece out of three options;
Hanging scroll, Uchiwa (Fan) or Tenugui (Japanese towel)

• We accept Japanese yen and credit cards. We don't accept checks.
• If someone in your group needs to be interpreted from English into your own language, please book a private session.

• For a group of 2 people: 8,000 JPY / person
  For a group of 3-4 people: 6,500 JPY / person
  For a group of 5-6 people: 5,000 JPY / person (same as the group lesson)

• If you'd like to book a private class, please contact us at ami@whattodoinkyoto.com
• It will not be possible to accept your request when we have other bookings for that day.

• If your group has more than 7 people, please contact us at ami@whattodoinkyoto.com
• We willingly accept large groups and will do our best to respond quickly to your request.

■ Cancellation Policy for a group of 1-3 people

• 50% of the fee will be charged for cancellations on the day before your workshop.
• 100% of the fee will be charged for the appointed day cancellation or for any "no-shows".

■ Cancellation Policy for a group of 4-6 people and a private class

• 50% of the fee will be charged for cancellations 2-3 days before your workshop. 
• 100% of the fee will be charged for cancellation on the day before, the appointed day, or for any "no-shows".
